PatinParkton, certainly puts things in perspective. I bought my uses Skeeter for $10k, less than a year of fishing Sunline. I've continued to have no issues with braid to fluoro on spinning reels and when I use co-polymers, like P-Line fluoroclear, on baitcasters, they handle well and I certainly don't have to change them every trip. I can't tell you the last time I broke a fish off on 14lb fluoroclear. I don't know about the comparison on stretch/visibility/sink vs. float with regular fluorocarbon, but I like it as a weekend angler.

Chema,
We have looked into this but the services that do this usually charge by the minute to subtitle video and we can't currently justify the cost. We have tried automated services, but, along with not being very accurate to begin with, all the "fishing terms" are wrong which makes it very confusing to read, and a lot of our videos are "fishing terms". We do have several hearing impaired students that we would love to provide this service for, but with such a large library of existing videos, it would be a very big project, as it clearly needs to be done 1 video at a time by a person.

RT, welcome aboard! Interestingly, we just posted a new seminar from David Dudley where he talks about the Florida strain of bass being a completely different animal and some of the things he has to do differently with colors just for fishing Florida lakes. I've never fished there, but he shares some color tips that I wasn't aware of.

He wanted to make sure you were paying attention. :)

Bama Rookie, yes, there's a whole series of "getting started videos", these will put you on the fast track to tackle and bass fishing basics. They'll also introduce you to some terminology that will allow you to better understand more in-depth topics that interest you.

The only thing I will add, from my pond fishing experience is that if the pond has a defined channel of any sort, I try to fish that (it's the only time I'm not really casting near the bank when fishing a pond for bass). I would suggest trying 2 extremes on retrieve as well. I would burn a spinnerbait (So the blade makes a wake) / lipless crankbait around anything, as fast as you can fish it and keep it under the water, if that doesn't work, "soak" something like the ned rig or drop shot. Either make them bite it by not giving them time to think about it, or give them a natural-looking bait and give them plenty of time to think about it. I've found private ponds are more forgiving to bold colors, when I was young, farm ponds were the only place I could get bites on firetail ribbon worms.

As long as the climate was fairly steady, I'd give it a try. I believe my dad still spools from a big spool of Silver Thread AN-40, I have no idea how old that line is, but it's kept in a drawer inside the house and seems fine.

We've added some illustrations to our new "BUcket List" Series showing things like what it looks like under a grass mat.

I have not fished in WA, but in the clear lakes near where I grew up we had 10ft+ visibility, and I believe most fish spawned VERY deep relative to traditional expectations.

Topic: Jigs

It depends, are you fishing around laydowns, grass, stumps, open water, etc.? This time of year, fish should be more active, so you can move it more aggressively (you usually don't have to let it sit for a long time). If the water is stained and there's shallow water cover, you can flip (drop it) in bassy-looking places and hop it up a few times. More open water situations, you can fish a swim jig. These are just some examples. Success in fishing jigs can be in the details.

Here are some videos, to check, depending on what's applicable:

Topic: Tough lakes

I caught my first smallmouth and walleye at Lake James. I've only fished there a handful of times, but do remember it being rather clear. When I fished shallow water, I stayed way back and made very long casts. I had success fishing the deep rock bluffs crawling a shakey head worm. I noted that, this time of year, the crawfish have orange on them and none of the ones spit up in my livewell were very big. Consequently, I caught some big smallmouth on 3" pumpkin crawfish baits with the tips dyed orange, rigged like a shakey head. I caught a few fish in shallow water and around docks, but I was surprised how deep I caught the better largemouth. I believe I fished there last in June, and caught only small fish on moving baits (jerkbaits and spinnerbaits), but caught the bigger fish on smaller plastics. I never caught a keeper bass, that I remember, after the sun came up that wasn't either: in the shade, deep, or both.

In really hot weather like you describe, I would try to find something deep, or any place where cooler water runs in. If the water is clear I would certainly try a dropshot or shakey head, here's a good seminar to check out. https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/dropshot-vs-shaky-head-john-crews

Wrenegade. I'm sorry that you had this experience. This is a very rare issue that has happened a time or 2 with our video hosting service. It's usually resolved in a matter of minutes. I think it has something to do with their service that authenticates that the request came from an authorized site. When that fails, you get this generic error. Hopefully you won't ever experience this issue again. Let me know if you have any other issues.

Many anglers attest to Florida and Florida strain bass varying greatly from other areas of the country. Here are a few seminars to get started with:

Some rods are easy to get right, meat and potatoes type rods. I have an old Bass Pro shops Zylon 6'6" that's great for topwater fishing and any small bait that I want to make precision casts with. I think I paid $50 for that rod. Great action, and soft tip, I'm not sure I've ever lost a fish with that rod and treble hooks. On the other hand, there are techniques that I love that I do feel like I get better results with a high-end rod, and since I use them a lot, I pay more $ for them. I personally like St. Croix rods and recently have started giving Cashion a try.

I read an article about Iaconelli patterning mayflies. From talking to a lot of pros, it's hard to know who did things first, as opposed to who invented them. Mike talks about the oil trick on crankbaits, but I've heard him in another video credit Terry Scroggins for it. Another example, I saw dudes fishing a thing they called a "spreader rig" (usually 2 big swimbaits) well before an Alabama rig. Martens is certainly an "observer", and he certainly likes to perfect things. I wish I remember which of our videos Martens talks about the Gilly rig, I think it's probably this one https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/rhino-head-dropshot-finesse-fishing-martens where he credits a friend for this rigging method.

How difficult is it to make this change as a first-timer? Do certain bearings only fit certain reels? I've got some old Curados and Citicas (late 90's editions) that would probably benefit from bearing replacement.

Jondoe67, Fritts must like fat handles, as they are on the rods I have as well.

RAYMOND, I'm sure the higher dollar batteries (like Optima) will last longer. I just account for trading out my regular run-of-the-mill cranking and deep cycle batteries about every 3 years. I can sometimes get 4 out of a cranking battery, but since it's a pain to switch out the cables at dusk when the livewells drained the battery, I usually don't push it. My dad's a mechanic and said the worst thing for a battery is for it to sit without a full charge, so he suggesting always to charge ASAP after a trip. After owning several boats, I remove the positive from my trolling batteries when I get home, as I've noticed a slow drain on more than one boat, and a pair of deep cycle batteries sitting drained results in a quick $300 lesson learned.

You probably need the map cards, the default maps on my unit were 20' depth contours, which may very well be no contours on the river.

Most seminars are recorded in the winter. For most videos in the past 2 years, we try to put the location and time of year in the first paragraph of the video description. I regret that this information is not currently available in some videos. One thing that we suggest is to click the "Buy Tackle" button, as most of the seminars link to a Tackle Warehouse page that shows the location and date, as these tackle pages were used at the original seminars.
