Topic: Bass U App

texaginwv, I have to ask specific questions, as we have a multitude of folks now using the app, and are unable to replicate this issue. I've tested the iOS app on an iPad rather extensively. Here are my suggestions, and I'd love to hear if you have success with them:
1. Ensure that you are logging in with your email address and password (some folks were logging in with just their public username, IE texaginwv)
2. Ensure that any typeahead or autofill information is correct. Sometimes misspellings creep into the autofill suggestions
3. It's easy to overlook capitalization on a tablet or phone screen, please ensure that letter case is correct for all letters in your password

Please let me know if these suggestions help.

Thank you for working with me on this. As you know, our app is new, so when we have issues, your feedback helps us tremendously when we are unable to replicate the issue.
The reason this is odd is because the login logic between the app and website are essentially the same. You've probably been logged into the website for a while. Can you confirm that you're able to login to the website by logging out and logging back in? I'd like to get a confirmation that you are currently able to login to the website.

Our cashion rod deal is for free shipping from Cashion. If you ordered directly from them, I'm sure you can contact them and work something out to reimburse, as rod shipping is not cheap.

The screen timeout is probably a setting on your phone. Perhaps some battery saver mode. I have my Android phone set to turn off after 60 seconds of inactivity, but it doesn't turn off if I'm watching a video or live stream. I do know that my phone has "power saver" and "ultra battery saver" modes, which may cause issues that like.

When you say that the video doesn't go full screen, can you describe further? On my phone, if I go full screen, but I have auto-rotate turned off, it will go "full screen" from left to right, but stays in portrait mode (vertical with big empty spaces above and below the video). If I have auto-rotate on, I can turn the phone sideways, then it's full screen.

texaginwv, I'm afraid that I've come up with no further diagnosis of this issue. I have had 1 report of the opposite (user can login on app, but not the website). I do know that we've released at least one update to the app since our last communication. Can you try updating the app to the latest version and see if the problem persists on your iPhone app?

Cody,
We had some data get shuffled around and the presentation slide links got broken. We are looking into resolving this, but have temporarily removed the broken links while we work to resolve this. Thankfully, our editing crew has been putting the slides into the videos for the last couple of years, so most of our newer content has the slides available in the video.

Ned rig & dropshot are my favorite for pressured bass. They may not always catch big bass, but I like getting bites, even 12 inchers.

JOKER,
This is really something out of our control. Our preview videos are hosted on Youtube so that a large audience can see our preview clips. It is a great thing that they transcribe videos automatically, but our video hosting service for our paid subscription does not have this feature. We have no automated means to do this, and setting up time keys for manual CC is a massive undertaking. We hope you are still enjoying your membership. One suggestion I would make is to slow down the video using the time controls (either with the gear icon in the bottom right, or the buttons below the video).

Topic: Smallmouth

Jmac,
Our site has loads of videos about smallmouth. You may not be finding all the videos, as "smallmouth" is one word, so if you are searching for "small mouth", you won't find anything.
We have Feider, JVD, Zona, "The Dean" Pete Gluszek, Pipkens, Bertrand and Joe Balog.

Cody,
Sorry, not yet. I've been mostly out of the office with family medical issues, so I'm the bottleneck in getting this back online. I do apologize.

zmanfishing, thank you for your reply. I don't have that particular device at my disposal, but I'll see if I can run some tests with Android 9, but I currently only have version 7 and version 10 available to me. It occurs to me, since you mentioned the Galaxy, Samsung is one of the few companies still shipping their own browser with their phones. Are you using the pre-installed Samsung Internet Browser? If so, please install Chrome from the app store and see if this resolves the issue.

October 6, 2020 10:13:31 PM

Oh, I failed to put all this together. Some parts of the app are rendered through the phones default browser. I speculate that it's using the Samsung browser, but I'm not really sure how to resolve that. These directions may help resolve this issue, please try this and let me know if it fixes the problem.

Clyde, whenever I'm not catching bass, I'll throw finesse baits. You didn't mention the water clarity, but if water is more than 1ft visibility, I would try a shaky head or drop shot rig. If there is high pressure on the lake, I've found that no-action type lures are effective. You might also want to try the technique described in the video we released today, finesse umbrella rigs https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/finesse-umbrella-rig-bass-fishing-bryan-thrift

That doesn't sound like pressured to me, it sounds like a heavenly place to live! Where I grew up, we fished a 10 acre pond that probably had someone fishing 30 hours a week, and we still caught bass (though we did catch the same ones a few times, sometimes we would be removing someone else's bait along with our own from where someone's line broke). In either case, 150 acres should support that type of fishing pressure well, and I would expect your bass to be rather susceptible to a wide variety of power and finesse techniques.

Topic: Red Hooks

This is a case where we don't have a specific video or instructor that dives into this topic thoroughly. I would say that, having watched our library of videos, the consensus among pros is that they rarely use red hooks, but a handful say they don't use them at all. This will ultimately be personal preference and partially what you believe the hook is doing. Can bass even see that bright red color? Research seems to indicate that bass can only see a certain spectrum of colors well. Does it look natural or is the red hook intended to make the lure look injured/bleeding? Are the best (sharpest) hooks in the bend you want even available in red?

Big fan of the cocoons polarized clip-ons, if you have prescription glasses in any standard shape.

Spots are great, if the forage is right. A nice roaming forage seems to diminish the impact on the otherwise lazy bigger shallow-dweller largemouth. If you can get your spotted bass population up to 2-3lbs. it makes for a fun day of fishing. I'm near Lake Norman and we have blueback herring and white perch. Catching 4lb spots is certainly not uncommon and the record is 6lbs+. The Wildlife folks recently sent me a newsletter stating that they were stocking northern/florida F1 hybrids to try to offset some of this lack of trophy largemouth, so I'm interested to see what impact that has on the lake and tournament fishing. Norman also demonstrated that, given a expansive water volume, spotted bass populations will EXPLODE in the short term and produce a bunch of dinks. I moved near Lake Norman shortly after spotted bass were introduced. I remember in the mid-to-late-2000s just catching 1 after the other 8-10" spotted bass that looked like a long skinny toy submarine. In either case, the likelihood of catching better-sized spots has vastly improved, in my opinion, and spotted bass give you another species to target, usually in a different area of the lake. There are pros and cons.

Agreed, I had a 17.5' Tracker for years and balance can be tricky in an aluminum boat. If you've got the $, you can get a lithium batteries, which have other advantages, besides less weight. I would also try to get all my heavy/dense tackle upfront and store lighter items like hard plastic baits/topwaters/spinnerbaits under the seats or in the back storage. If your model comes with a front livewell/baitwell (which ours did, and we never used as a livewell) you can fill this with ice and put your drinks in there.

Topic: Mental game

You may be fishing too conservatively. Almost all club tournaments are won, in my opinion, by the handful of guys swinging for the fences, and not "fishing for a limit". I believe Gerald Swindle talks about this in his most recent seminar https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/gerald-swindles-keys-to-tournament-junk-fishing-success (Keys to Junk Fishing Tournament Success). Why focus on catching fish you are going to need to replace anyway, if you're going to win? Spend all day chasing big bass, if you have 4 with 30 minutes left, maybe go to a high percentage spot and grab a 14" to fill out the limit. Swinging for the fences means zeroing sometimes, sometimes you catch 1 or 2 big fish, and sometimes you're at the top. I feel like rarely do you finish in the money just trying not to get skunked. Check out Gerald's video, I think it will help, as I think junk fishing with a general idea of what you're going to do is a great approach to finishing in the money.

I don't have a device for testing, but I'm certain that I've got quality line that's at least a couple of years old that's been in a closet inside the house between 65-72 degrees year-round. I would like to hear some research on this. I am slowly moving to braid with fluoro leader for lots of applications, partially because I'm tired of respooling and wasting all that line.

December 29, 2020 12:06:25 PM

The consensus is certainly flurocarbon amongst the pros.
