Shelf Life of Fluorocarbon Line?
With all the holiday sales of 30 to 40% off name brand fluorocarbon lines, I am tempted to really stock up. But I am concerned the line will be stale in 3 to 6 months. What is the shelf life of fluorocarbon line (assuming properly stored)?
I don't have a device for testing, but I'm certain that I've got quality line that's at least a couple of years old that's been in a closet inside the house between 65-72 degrees year-round. I would like to hear some research on this. I am slowly moving to braid with fluoro leader for lots of applications, partially because I'm tired of respooling and wasting all that line.
I buy bulk Florocarbon spool and see no deterioration in the quality even after a handful of years, I can typically get nearly 3 years out of the line on the reel spool itself.
I think UV light and dry heat does more to damage line than anything else. I store everything in a giant plastic bin and that keeps them protected for along time.
