Are you talking about all the hooks rusting? I keep them in a small plastic box like a Flambeau box, but be sure they're completely dry before you put them away. The Zerust boxes may help with a little moisture.
Matthew, this is a fairly geographic-specific question, so it may take some time to get a response. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer, but I do know there are some herring seminars and Matt Becker talks specifically about Murray in his Winner's Circle video at https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/lake-murray-champion-matt-becker-winners-circle . Brandon Cobb talks about seasonal blueback herring in https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/best-blueback-herring-lake-seasonal-fishing-strategies-brandon-cobb and Casey Ashley talks about suspended bass and herring in https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/blueback-herring-suspended-bass-fishing-casey-ashley
I could be wrong, but, in the early days, the units required GPS pucks, now, I believe Humminbird puts them on one of the cables. As long as the gps porition isn't on the transducer cable, I don't see why the GPS wouldn't work without the sonar transducer.
Some pros may donate their previous model/previous sponsor equipment to non-profit organizations like The Ike Foundation, which focuses on getting kids fishing. Also, as you noted, our presenters do indeed use a range or reels at various price points. I've looked up some of the reels on tackle warehouse and noted they were in the $150 range, which is pretty competitive for pro-level tackle. Cliff Crochet is with KastKing now, and I think their line tops out at $180.
Maybe they are using the technique that Gussy discusses in this videos with us, called "moping". Check out these videos https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/gussy-gustafson-on-moping-electronics-march-2021 & https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/northern-smallmouth-bass-fishing-tactics-jeff-gustafson

I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier. I fished night tournaments for years on Lake Wylie and Lake Norman. First order of business is to be safe, some anglers in the tournaments we were in were in accidents (some their fault, some the fault of intoxicated boaters who didn't turn their lights on). Secondly, docks lights are nice, particularly for your own ability to see, but it's certainly not the only place to catch bass. For your comfort, any moonlight and your eyes will adjust, a full moon and you can read a book. I got to where I preferred night fishing in the hot summer. Otherwise, bass will see the silhouette of a bait and they're feeding up, so it doesn't take a lot of light. I fished a straight black trick worm about 50% of the time. I've also caught hundreds of bass on 4" dropshot worms and 6" shaky heads at night, so don't rule out finesse and just toss spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. In short, dismiss from your brain the myth that bass are going to need the light to find your bait. I remember the first bass I caught fishing offshore humps on a Carolina-rigged trick worm on a pitch-black night. After that, I tossed all my assumptions out the window. Bass will hold in and around areas where they usually are in the day. On the aforementioned day, the fish where off the hump in deeper water in the day, and moved up onto the hump at dusk/night. A few positives to night fishing:
1. I think there's a little forgiveness on spooking fish, particularly in clear water, you get a little forgiveness on running in on a spot
2. Fishing pressure is usually lower, and you can often hit prime spots without competing
3. If you want to take it easy and eat a sandwich and a moon pie, you can usually tie up to bridge piling and drop shot up a respectable limit in the summer
4. It's certainly cooler and you don't need sunscreen (but bring the DEET)
As an avid gardener, surface fertilizers are as efficient as leaving your freezer door open to cool your house. These issues are one of the reasons my wife an I are hesitant to live on a major waterway (though we would otherwise love to). We love to eat fresh fish, but there are too many chemicals, coal ash and sewage going into our lakes right now. Too many people simply don't care.
He meant "green pumpkin magic". I believe they have since also introduced Tilapia Magic, which I'm curious to try.
A good number of our technique-specific videos cover all 4 points in a single 45min class video. The recent John Crews seminar on Carolina rigs comes to mind https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/going-deep-on-carolina-rigs-john-crews
We have discussed categorizing topics by how in-depth they are, allowing students to jump straight to, or work up to "advanced" topics. Bobby Lane's on-the-water stuff often has a flow similar to what you described: What is the rig? What tackle do I need? When am I fishing it? What tricks can I do to catch more fish or set my presentation apart from the crowd?
By necessity, some of our seminars don't really fit the mold, they are special-case scenarios that may relate to "x" technique, but also "y" technique. For instance, JT Kenney's Water Temperature Trends seminar may apply to any technique, or John Murray's fishing for pressured bass seminar. These are building blocks that you will identify how they relate to you and "x" technique with your time on the water. What makes putting specific courses together is that some topics, like fishing tidal waters, may be the entire focus of a class, but the pro may talk a lot about "x" technique. Some of the information might be great as general information, but some might relate primarily to tidal waters.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the feedback.
1. From my experience DiPalma just talks softly and carries a big stick. We probably need to boost his mic
2. We are working with the app company for an audio-only version of seminars that will play when the screen is off. Apparently (for data rate purposes, and probably battery life), Apple and Android phones stop videos when the screen goes to sleep. Data is a consideration for a lot of people, so having an audio-only version would be great battery/data saver for people just listening. I don't know how far out this is, we are in the early stages and would need to convert about 900 to audio.
3. We don't have the forums in the app at the moment because the feedback we got when making the app was "keep it simple and don't put too many things in it". I think most users are pleased that the app makes it very easy to find and watch videos.
4. Do you mean "thumbs up" & "thumbs down" type voting?
5. Dustin did our winner's circle class https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/2021-mlf-redcrest-lake-eufaula-champ-dustin-connell after his Eufaula win. Several pros have not been able to do our classes simply because of scheduling conflicts.
I had a hand in building the current website and am expecting to be involved in future development. We are discussing a revamp of the site (which would effectively be version 3), so I welcome your feedback.
Hey, I had this issue as well. I went to the settings and change the screen timeout to "Never go to sleep" or something of that nature. You have to remember to turn it off when you're done to save your battery, but this resolved my issue.
I believe this is what you're looking for https://seaclearpower.com/
Glad to hear it. I miss those tournaments. For years it was the only time my brother and I could get out and fish together. We both have plates full now with responsibilities, but it's great to have those memories.
GDP is able to bend space and time, and we were able to capture it on video. At one point, he even summons a floor from some other dimension.
Well, you can tell be the recent reviews of the trick worm on Tackle Warehouse that people are still finding all the "magic" colors are great for catching bass, so I still think it's the juice.
I recently took a chance on the Daiwa Regal RGLT2500D-XH. I was replacing a 2005ish Daiwa Laguna, which had served me well, and I saw that, in the Regal 2500 size (my favorite size), there was a high speed 6.2:1 ratio. I haven't gotten to try it out yet, but the specs are way above the $60 price point, I hope it lasts me 16 years like the Laguna. https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=c1UQEdGla5o&mid=38416&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tackledirect.com%2Fdaiwa-regal-lt-spinning-reel.html
I'm glad you're enjoying the Sufix and the 40% Rapala discount. Once it's back in stock, I can also recommend their performance braid for spinning tackle. No twists and it lasts forever, put about 10' of fluoro leader and you're set for a while. I use 10lb braid and 6-8lb leader.
Paul, which discount are you referring to? The Rapala discount is an annual membership with Rapala, once you're onboard for the year, you get the discount whenever you're logged in. The current $25 gift card promotion with Tackle Warehouse is a one-time use code. I hope this answers your question.
I believe the current Missile code is good for as long as it remains active (we change it periodically, but usually replace it with the same offer, just a different code).
Ronnie, since we get the gift codes from Tackle Warehouse, we send these out in batches, so keep your eye on your email over the next few weeks. We usually try to run a report about every 2 weeks for gift card promotions.
I'm usually throwing baits bigger than white perch will eat. What size white perch are you catching? Around here, we have a lot of 1/4 to 1/2 lb. perch with an occasional catch over 1lb. I throw a lot of 4-5" swimbaits in big schools of white perch and they mostly leave it alone or only bite the tail. Honestly, I rarely catch them unless I'm trying to (which I do sometimes, because they are delicious). In the past, I have not downsized in the fall, but some of our instructors have suggested it. I may run into the white perch issue then. I guess, I'll just fry 'em up if I start catching them.
I looked at the jig you are referring to, Stanley SwimMax Swim Jig, I wonder if the hook being bent up like that might be your issue. I've never fished with a swim jig where the hook point was angled down like that. Probably helps it not get hung up, but may also be affecting your hookups. Maybe try a more traditional hook orientation, like on the Missile Baits Mini Swim Jig https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=c1UQEdGla5o&mid=38416&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tackledirect.com%2Fmissile-baits-ikes-mini-swim-jig.html these look like otherwise similar jigs, and Dirty Jigs has a lot of colors to choose from.
Otherwise, I don't entirely agree on the premise. I do agree on tackle, I fish most jigs on 7' or 7'6" MH with a softer tip of the 7' for skipping in tight places. I also have little to no grass in my lakes. Not bad to get all your jig fishing in on 2 rods. I fish around a lot of rock and without a football jig, I would lose a lot more jigs. Personally, I would rather try to swim a football jig than fish a swim jig around rocks. D-Bomb is a good trailer, but there are times I want a chunk or the action of a twin tail grub. Still not a lot of tackle though.
I could be wrong, as I've never specifically targeted an underwater spring, but on impoundments, I look for old ponds. I started looking for these old ponds to find deep summer bass around the dam contours, but it makes sense that the ponds may be spring fed.
Yes, your line is tight when there's a fish on (I guess you could also be hoping they get hung up).
Punching is more likely to require some heavier tackle. Here are some must-watch classes to answer you question and help you decide what you can and can't get by with:
Lintner's Punching Tackle Tips - https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/tackle-tips-punching-matted-vegetation-jared-lintner
The first part of Lintner's Live On the Water where he's punching - https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/lintner-2-hour-5-bass-challenge-punching-topwater
I can't recall which of these 2 Ish videos where he covers why you need certain gear ratios, punching weight sizes, braided line preferences, hooks and knots, but probably worth checking them both out, as he's full of great punching information:
