The problem is not our willingness to create several avenues for customers to access our content on additional devices, it's the degree to which that technology varies from what we already have in place. In short, it's the "lowest-hanging fruit" scenario. We have many customers asking for support on different devices. While Roku is one of the top devices, the integration with their process could prove to be more challenging and the resulting product leaves Alexa/Apple TV customers asking "What about us?". On the other hand, one of our quickest integration paths will allow us to build one application that will support all mobile devices, which, combined ,have a much greater # of request than any other single platform.
That's not to say that Roku, or any other device is out the window, but with our current staff, we can only really focus on one new technology integration at a time, so we don't have a timeline for when to expect more news about it. While we have lots of loyal subscribers, whom we appreciate and for whom we want to provide features & solutions, we don't have Netflix's employee manpower to quickly deploy those solutions. They take careful planning to go smoothly, and we don't want to also risk having bad user experiences by deploying half-baked solutions.

Topic: Braid

I like suffix on my spinning reels and it's available at a great price with the Rapala VIP discount, it's also a great price. I use the performance braid. I like yellow for fishing the ned rig because I can see bites. I know that most guys use a heavier line, but I like 10lb. braid to 6lb. fluoro leader, I feel like I can cast further, and since I'm usually fishing lightwire hooks, my hooks don't need 20lb. braid.
I spooled my dropshot/ned rig rod at the beginning of the year and I've probably cut off less than 10 yds of braid and the line is still in great shape, no twist and still has some color. I put on about a 8-10ft. leader each time and that allows me to retie several times before putting on a new leader. I plan to use the same line this season. I've had no break offs (related to the braid) so far, and have saved a lot of time and fishing line by not having to respool so much. The reduced line twist frustration is probably what I like best, and the increased sensitivity is also a big plus. I now dislike fishing straight fluoro on a spinning reel.

Texas, Florida and Alabama would all offer reasonable opportunities for 10# bass.

The way I think of topwaters is that spooks are like something swimming/feeding actively, which is easy target for feeding bass. I think of poppers as something injured, which is an easy target if you know a small area with bass, because they want that easy meal, even if they aren't biting. Interestingly, I've caught very few spotted bass on poppers, and I wonder if that's because they are less likely to hold tight to cover and more prone to be looking to feed actively.

I use a 7ft+ rod for ned rigging. I usually pitch (ending the pitch with my rod at about 11 oclock) then I follow the bait down with my rod. With the coil/slack in the line, plus the length of the rod, I'm guessing I can follow it down about 15 ft without it doing much pendulum. I use Z-man baits for ned rigging, the fall I get is a natural glide, so even if it pendulums a little, I think it still looks natural, as it's always gliding in one direction or another. I also use bright yellow braid with a 6ft+ fluoro leader, which helps me see bites. If the braid's not sinking, one may have one.

Awesome, glad to help. My only other advice would be to not overweight it. I think I use something like a 1/15th oz. weight shroomz head for a slow natural fall.

January 20, 2020 09:52:27 AM

Oh, and please don't overestimate what I mean by slack. Since braid floats, it only takes a little slack to have a little floating on the surface and not impede the action on the fall. Again, as long as it's still falling, I'll lower my rod and follow it down. I'm not leaving 3ft of slack line on the water, just enough to keep it from changing the bait action. As you get used to the rate of fall of your lure and know how deep the water is, you'll have an easy time knowing what speed to lower your rod, whether you need to flip the bail and feed more line (which I usually only need to do in like 15ft +) and detecting bites.

If you marked fish, it's certainly possible that the engine caused them to move. Particularly in a clear water situation, I would see this as possible. I have a Helix G2 and I've had no problems seeing submerged items (trees, sunken boats, etc) consistently with marked waypoints. When you mark waypoints, are you just hitting waypoint, or using the cursor to mark RIGHT ON the spot? I used the unit for months before I knew that, if I used the arrows, the side-imaging screen would pause and let me select exactly what I wanted to mark. If you're scanning 75 ft out on both sides, like me, that makes a big difference on how accurately you're marking the spot.

Personally, I think locating the fish is the most difficult part of fishing. I've fished for about 35 years now and practiced some techniques for hundreds of hours. Meanwhile, when I met my wife, who loves to fish, but didn't have anyone to take her, if I put her around the fish, she could vacuum them up, sometimes better than me. Also, when I fished as a co-angler, I usually caught fish of the boater caught fish, and usually didn't, if they didn't. All that to say, unproductive water will kill tournament success, no matter how experienced you are, but you put someone with a cursory knowledge of fishing around some active fish and they will catch fish. You can't make a fish bite, if they aren't there.
We have several videos on here about seasonal patterns, locating bass, etc. that should help. https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/locate-bass-fast-mike-iaconelli and https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/locate-bass-fast-part-2-mike-iaconelli come to mind. Now, you'll just need to convince your partner to explore seem new areas.

I have contacted Humminbird at https://www.humminbird.com/contact and they told me the exact part #s I needed when I had networking questions. I'm sure they can point you to where to purchase the cables you need to accomplish this.

I started using braid to fluoro on spinning tackle in 2019. The amount of headaches eliminated by braid is amazing. Even mono coils up and tangles. Fished all last year with Suffix braid, only cut off about 10 yards all year, and I plan to fish it this year as well. I actually left some of the old line on the spool and filled it up with braid, so I didn't even use that much (you're not going to fish down to the spool). Braid may seem expensive, but when you're getting a full season + out of it and only putting 100yds on, it's probably the cheapest line. I can't tell you how many times I've birds nested with fluoro and completely lost a spool of line that wasn't that old, and didn't have that rod available the rest of the day. Lastly, it casts much better/further.

January 29, 2020 10:05:12 AM

Not to mention the waste of time and throwing all the fluoro away (since most average Joes don't even know where to recycle their fishing line, and many programs only accept mono). I love to catch bass, but I'm not doing it for a living, and, while it may be the absolute best thing for catching bass, if braid is 80% as effective in getting bites, it certainly makes up for it in every other way in which it is far superior to fluoro. Guys like VanDam might be fishing for $100k bites, I get it, that's why I also understand him burning 70 gallons of gas to get to/from a spot. Again, I'm not that guy. I want the best balance of fish catching to enjoyment/convenience. After 1 season with braid, you'd have to present some really compelling evidence to get me to switch from braid as my primary line. Now, I do usually fish a fluoro leader, but 2-3 yards of fluoro a day, I can afford that.

These aren't incomplete. These are legacy videos that have multiple parts. The link to the 2nd, 3rd, etc. parts are below the video. We've talked about trying to condense these into single videos, but it's quite an undertaking, in terms of man hours. All of our latest videos are in single parts.

Two things that I wish would change about sport fishing are: 1) throwing away too much fishing line 2) jacking a hookset on a bass like a 1978 fiberglass 5.5' pistol grip with mono when it's actually a 7.5' heavy action rod and no stretch braid. I can't tell you how many bass I caught last year with one side of their jaw completely separated. From what I can tell, that's really the only thing that can cause that.

A couple of our instructors have discussed softer tip rods for braid and, unless you're fishing in thick vegetation, not needing to set the hook like Superman on steroids when using braid. I believe John Crews talks about it in one of his seminars. I think Berkley has a program but the video only mentions mono, continually, but I've read that you can also put fluoro in the fishing line recycle containers (just not braid). At the moment, I believe it needs to be mailed in, unless you can find one of these collection bins. http://www.berkley-fishing.com/Berkley-recycling.html
If you can't recycle I propose at least cutting it into small pieces. When I strip my spools, I wrap it around my hand, then take the braid scissors and cut the whole loop 3-4 times and it becomes all 2" or so pieces. (Be sure you're over the trashcan or this will make a mess) At least this way it doesn't tangle up and injure/kill any wildlife at the landfill.

Topic: Red Lures

I think the biggest thing is that this time of year many bass primarily feed on crayfish. Where I live, most crayfish aren't red, but may have some orange/red features. Fishing around riprap, where crayfish hide out, is popular in the early spring as well.

These technologies probably excel in deeper water, where you're less likely to spook fish. The one guy I've really seen use it effectively had it on a pole on the side of a pontoon. He got dialed into the crappie on a bridge in no time flat. The boat was on a 40-60ft dropoff, so maybe that's why he could catch the fish he was seeing.

Sorry, I've never backed mine up. I actually delete mine often, as I'm often marking fish. Most of where I fish is structure fishing, and if I marked spots, it would just be ledges, channels, flats and points. I have great spotted bass fishing within 10 minutes of my house, but it's about an hour to really target largemouth, so I probably fish a bit differently than most guys on here.

Not sure if you're pulling my leg here, but I have a 97 Skeeter with cables, ordered the part # online and replaced them. It was pretty easy. The steering column was only difficult because I had to get under the console. Usually tight=about to break. For safety, I would replace them. When the new cables are in, spray with WD-40 white lithium.
