I have a avid x and i opt for blood knot.
Most will tell you the fg knot is your knot. I trust tactical bassin youtube guys they use blood knot and i love it.
Good Luck

Rods are something i have put on top of my priority recently... Despite I already have 30 plus. I just have been disapointed with many of rods i currently own... Thus my quest for further knowledge. I plan to give you a few tips below as long winded as i might be. How ever I am no means a pro so take it for what its worth.
Tip1 often in tackle stores guys grab a rod and bend tip with hand or they put tip on floor and bend tip. An extra tell of a rod is to hold tip gently in one hand
Take index finger of other hand nesr butt and use it for support... Now keep moving index finger up rod towards tip letting rod almost free fall but supported by finger... This shows you how rods loads
Tip 2 faster moving baits you can go with more parabolic bend or less sensative rod. Often one of reason but not all.. why rods so expensive is how sensative a rod is.
Tip 3 every rod manufacturer defines their power diff. This is bigbtime frustrating for me... Why is because this forces me to buy rods local... Last thing i want is its like buying a motorcycle helmet or pair shoes online and they dont fit..... Second part to this is often buying local for me almost all rods on shelf have fast or extra fast tip
I been wanting what i see pros like skeet reese or jacob wheeler their rods seem to be like noodles during a cast but are beefy when fishing... Ive yet to conclude why. It maybe correct line correct weight lure... Pay attn to what is documented on rod.
Tip4 some of things drive price of rod up is sesativity of materials... Light weight and balance. Typically light weight and sensative rods require skill and high end materials to also keep them durable. Reel seats and guides can drive costs up. More guides or cheap heavy guides can take away sensativity.
Tip 5 I can use same rod for spinnerbaits small to med cranks, too waters and possibly other techniques... For me baits with treble hooks i have more of med tip or parabolic bend rather than fast or extra fast.

Im quickly thinking many of my short comings reside in i never paid much mind to line size printed on rod... This is first year i ever thrown 12lb line or higher. Hope some of this helps.

Rods... Give me your best answer to my argument or my buddies argument.

About me: Most of my fishing buddies
Either moved away or i moved from them or they get married or have pile kids and simply no longer fish.
Then I answer an online ad and buy 2 g loomis rods from this guy who now we talk everyday about fishing. And i bought 2 more loomis rods new... But yet to get into NRX rods. I have 30 plus rods high end to mid end rods reels.
I OFF TOP HEAD will say my most expensive combo or combos could run say 450.

About friend : He sold me the 2 loomis rods which got me hooked on loomis.
He is not new to fishing but kinda new to bass fishing. He fishes super high end stuff... Only Loomis Nrx or Conquest with big dollar reels.
typical combo for him is like 1k without a deal.

Now we talk everyday fishing and often a gentlmans argument.
He keeps pushing his NRX Loomis on me... Ahh you need this I can feel a blade of grass and tell when its on my hook. In fairness i could afford a loomis NRX... But my arguments to him
Is id break it leaving house to truck or in truck and id scream. My second argument is i have a tournament mindset when i fish... I dont get to fish as often as i would if not married lol

His argument is if i sold some of my stuff and had less stuff i could be like him... He says im a quanity guy where he is a quality guy. He has maybe 6 nrx and now only 1 Conquest.
So i have a bassboat and just purchased a new plastic bass boat to fish my private HOA lake. So i know he mostly fishes spinning rods so i only brought spinning gear and invited him to fish with me the very first time i put little boat on my lake... So we on equal grounds... I know zip about my lake and not have the depth finder on boat yet.

I out fished him big time.
we still argue but my point to him is i want active fish i dont want the fish that barley taps bait.... He claims he can feel that bite of those finicky fish... I said were in arizona the sun comes up fast i want to move along.
I noticed now he buying other rods... But he wont admit it to me.

Whats your take

Fyi I love high end gear love loomis
But my mindset is i could buy more gear for price of one NRX
He says the opposite.

Thanks basscfo for jacob p knot video

Before this i been using gerald swindel
double shindle what ever he calls it.

Also i refer people to David Fritts
He claims floro is junk for cranking
I know a lot young bucks on tour today are floro guys but i believe old folks know things.

So i went to braid to mono on crankin
Call me weird but thats my new deal.

May 30, 2020 05:48:39 PM

Wow Patinparkton
That really brings things to light to me
i know people say use braid as backing
or floro leader.
First year for me on braid to floro leader. Maybe my braid too thin
But casting braid gets distance with horrible accuracy.
I checked your math.. Spot on.
you were fair in only 50yds a reel
But even if not respool every trip
The cost of floro is high.
I use them all but i use alot of mono too
.
Example on spinning gear I keep a extra spool with me for my reel one has mono one has floro if buddy or tourney partner out fishes me i plop on floro spool. So far ive not seen any diff in floro vs mono as in line shy fish
But ive never fished heavy line either

May 30, 2020 06:16:45 PM

In fairness dean is right one day ill catch a giant on thin line and be disapointed but to me that means the fish earned a right to win that round.
I know tourney guys dis agree but i fish them too... I dont even believe in nets
Ive fished with guys want you to net every 2lb fish im like really!!!

Documented PB was 7.5 in Illinois
Looked to be a Florida Strain
Was at a State Park in Mchenry County
I believe game and fish was doing experiments. I learned the size of bass in this one little state park lake(one of many lakesbin park close to ranger station) by week before a guy was testing a bait for a southern illinois tourney.... Berkley Power Slug... Not the same as a Slugo.
He caught 2 fish in front of my buddy and I that burried his scale we freaked
Cause Illinois bass in north not that big.
I could not find his bait so i used a Black
salamander lizard with white dot. Spinning gear.

Next in Arizona
Spinning gear no scale... I tell folks it was 7.5 but my gut says 9lbs on pop r
Parallel bank early morning... ABSOLUTE GIANT TO ME.

Topic: Best Spinnerbaits

My best were always made by
Russ BassDozer near lake Powell Arizona.... Hope he ok he no longer sells on ebay.
I wrote him and response was I no longer can get that color blade... Few weeks after that his ebay store was down.... I think he wrote fishing articles
Hope his health ok.

May 30, 2020 06:49:27 PM

Eagerly waiting responses....
reason is i have no doubt they work
But wondered on some slight older gear if the new bearing out play the brakes

May 30, 2020 06:53:20 PM

What Jason said.... And
I dont think mine are pure glass but prolly mostly.
I use them for cranks sometimes spinner baits and sometimes top water plugs

May 30, 2020 06:55:50 PM

Its an amazing bait prolly go in hall of fame if they have one.
I did my best for years to not use one even after knowing first hand.
This year picked it back up and smash em. But given the chance if i could find the original Berkley Power Slug id trade for it in a minute

That price point cant beat a lews very forgiving on back lashes

May 30, 2020 07:03:14 PM

I have ton shimano reels Curado or Higher... Have Diawa have Abu Garcia premiers... Have mid range lews to high lews. Hands down if had to stick to 99 dollar reel it be a lews... Ive not gone down to the Mach crush or lower end stuff but usually the i think called tournament pro LFS is like 99 to 129 best non or rare backlash free reel for money that LASTS

Ive never been against scent...
always sceptical on garlic... Did not want to catch a carp or catfish lol

However i mostly used product called Bang... In crawfish or Shad.
Somehow lost track of it not seen on shelves in while..... So it became out of sight out of mind.

Recently tried rejuvenate some dry worms i poured olive oil and old coffee grounds in ziplock ... Bam i was shocked how fast almost lost a rod.

I always looked at the Bang product... I over saturated my baits and see oil slick... It was like my own little hyrdawave to turn an area on.... Mainly when fishing slick calm conditions

Rules of this post(if i may) :
Answer must be from the heart and not bias to your favorite angler.

Must state the name and why.

Ill go first... Its hard for me... Ike done alot skeet done alot kevin and steve kennedy Hack etc.
But sticking to rules

Aaron Martens
I went to all days of Havasu win on the black bird bite

Seen a video i cant find anymore where he used pool clarifier to clear the water for sight fishing.
His work on drop shot... Hooks and rigging.
Scrounger Heads and Shakey Heads
Rod development.
on and on.

I love snaps never had failure im aware of. I like the Norman ones for ease of use. Like the shape of the vmc ones.

May 30, 2020 07:59:24 PM

Long winded answer but here goes.

I fish a lake reservoir that has a lot trees under water. The water goes up and down... Often a year or two in a row of drout. Think thats why trees grow fast they are i think mesquite trees. Then when lake up they are submerged.

Im no pro but believe this technique requires tools and skill.

I select a crankbait that when paused it floats backwards in upward manner.
use a reel like david fritts says it has slop think its called multi stop
Which is different than zero anti reverse.

Next when stop bait move rod reel forward straight at bait.

How to fish:
I throw this crank out... Long cast get lure to depth and run it into these underwater trees. Paying very close attn.... At moment feel bait crash into trees i stop and move rod forward.
Let bait allow enough time to float up backwards and slow reel again
IF there is fish on that tree he smashes it as i begin reeling again.
The technique I describe keeps you from hanging up.... Its not for faint hearted takes alot skill to master to not lose more baits than can afford.

May 30, 2020 08:21:05 PM

I might add i use very low gear ratio
5.1.1 lews bb1 reel or old shimano bantam curado this is important because your trying to not get hung up
Low gear typically has low inches per turn... Its a timing thing.... High concentration... Stop too late your hung.

Best to watch bunch of videos.

Most bass fisherman i think start with plastic worm. When learning bass fishing. Some keys to zero on is rigging.
In other words critical your worm rigged straight if texas rigged.

Cant go wrong with a senko bait
And many ways to rig a senko.
