I would like to understand why Reservoir fishing seems so much harder. I understand , people need to be more willing to dropshot. But there has to be more too it.
Now there are times Bass are easy Pickens. John Murray use to Live in Arizona and once said Lake Pleasant , the Bass never Read the Book on how Bass should perform like normal Bass. (paraphrased)

Humminbird Helix 9 SI G3

I continually find fish on graph or sometimes I wont , but I will find a nice spot I want to try. However If I do mark fish I drop a waypoint Circle back, either idle or Trolling motor and They are Gone.
Or I will see a Spot and mark it , say it looks like a Giant "V" Mark it and come back around and cant find what I seen on my screen again.
I feel as if maybe my graph is updating too slow . I am not doing what Aaron Martens and Brent Ehrler are doing ( running side imaging on pad) I go slow like 2mph or no more than 3mph
Thanks.

Hello,
I have a club fishing partner that is not a friend of mine. He provides the State of the Art Equipment , but I'm convinced he knows how to catch a fish and use many different lures, However I think or feel he is clueless on how to find fish.
Help ....Signed
First Tourney of Year blown by Partner Stuck in Rut. (rut = he caught a winter bass in this spot , so thinks its the deal)

I also remember some pros talking about removing split rings on Lipless Baits and using that VMC or similiar clip.

To be clear , I think Standby keeps your unit from pinging the open air and prematurely wearing out the transducer, therefore I think the user is aware of this , thus why he wants to use standby as well as save battery a tad.

Re: " Does anyone have any experience with panoptix and is it worth it?
I kinda do ( partner has it ) ....I hate it . Kinda like Gman said , He don't want to know the fish under the boat or there about.

Now I am sure it has it's advantages, and I am more apt to believe most do not know how to dial it in . I say this , because once you fish with someone that has it , all they want to do for hours is play video games , and guess what , they do not catch anything.
Gman basically said this too. Bottom line is I bet there is a serious learning curve, But once figure it out , It could be a player. But for me , most of my practice or tourney day is eaten up by a video game player that never gets bit.

Hello,

I really want one of these Humminbird 360 units.
I made a mistake and bought a Helix unit that is not network capable but I can update later , I do not mind buying another Unit to Run 360 and later update the one at Counsel so they networked, I can "sneaker net " (transfer waypoints manually for now).

My real question is how do you go about getting 360 the cheapest way. I kinda wanted to get the use out of my current trolling motor which is not the desired model they want to sell you.
Any Tips Tricks or Hacks people doing ?
For some reason I have hard time finding info on these units . There is plenty of videos on its uses but not how to implement it in your boat.

Hello Folks,

I want to buy an extra power cable for my Helix.
My Boat is far away from the house.
Want to:
1. Be able to use my unit mapping in my living room. (with lake master chip)
2. Maybe bring my unit along when my partner and I fish just for mapping purposes. ( we use his boat for fishing and he uses another brand, and appears not understand the quality of maps or his unit can not do what humminbirds can)

Well said Burgerboy
I kinda feel the same way. I like suffix as well, over the old standby brands . But I got caught up in the floro a bit and hate it . Now fishing with braid to floro leader and still hate it.
Will I go back to Suffix exclusively ? All depends how this year pans out . Sometimes as fisherman we get things in our head and hard to shake them. Super Clear smallmouth fishing might make a big difference , maybe even vertical drop shot.
But on the other side of things I finally got the courage up to believe in David Fritz fishing braid to a crank bait....cant wait to try it this year. But I must say I never have fished over 12lbs of anything
So maybe I catch fish on Mono because I use no heavier than 10lb Suffix regardless if I miss bringing in a Big Bass without a snap of the line.

Thanks... Then my response is...
im sure the garmin has its place and i think there maybe a learning curve to it. I say this because ive read, watched videos on folks complaining and heard Gman explain why he does not want to know the fish near boat basically they dont bite. I also fish with a guy out of a new 21ft ranger and has 2 of these things with massive screens and he wastes hours on playing video games and i never seen him catch one yet.

Let me be clear sorry side imaging and waypoint works... But when im down imaging mega and 2d i see what might be a river channel thus the "V" i speak of. I think i may have answered my own question.... Maybe its the angle I approach back to the waypoint.... Love the unit and its new to me im getting better. But do you offer any advice on screen speed for purposes unknown to me.... Say idle around do you speed up screen then slow down when stopped or drift.... Or the opposite?

January 29, 2020 07:54:05 PM

Yes i understand how to move cursor to exact spot on side image... Thanks.
Is backing up waypoints easy... When first got unit i marked everything
Now id like to back those up... And start brand new with new chip now that i understand unit more... Because i was like kid in candy store... But i dont like throwing away a potential spot lol but would like clean slate... And this time I will take time to label the waypoints for cleaner deal

February 18, 2020 01:10:22 PM

Thanks a Million however i am confident i can find fish... But the point is getting partner to believe in me.
As stated we fishing out if his state of the art fully rigged ranger... So he i assume looks at me like a smuck.... Its now 2 tournies blown since post... The bite is deep the water is cold but he wants to pound banks and areas he smashes them in spring and summer.
Hoplessly trying to communicate to him how fish move.... General idea is he is fishing spawning areas and fish are in winter mode

Alot of variables you leave out.
However John Murray once said it best (paraphrase) a lot of Arizona lakes the Bass never read the book on how they should behave.
Never the less... Some points of consideration... Arizona early light
Top water can be the deal. Arizona
Has lots of sunshine and Bass have no eyelids... Often is the case the water is clear so this compounds the issue.
Say you smash em on topwater then bite slows... Now move deeper or find shadey spots.... If have too setup a milk run based on light conditions... Then when 11am or high noon so to speak seek out your deep structure spots and shakey head or dropshot

Arizona... Chop on water is your friend blocks some light, this helps keep shallow bite on... .. Very few natives here... All moved here grew up bank fishing.... Learn to locate deep spots that should hold fish. One if my favorite lines is telling folks there is always the exception... Meaning truley patterning is repeating what you found. The exception is say bite is slow and you only caught few shallow and dinks... Some will fall for this and think to continue on... The exception is there is bass in all 4 corners of lake... This fools many... But the bulk are where? Thats your job. Exception is... Some fish live shallow some live deep...
Often is the case in arizona the deeper fish move shallow to feed and duck back out.... Again more too this but you left out variables... Such as what stage are the fish in you speak of.. What seasonal pattern... What was weather pattern prior too your day on water and what is it on the day.... Blah blah blah.
In Arizona its hard to believe we have 4 seasons... Rest of country has winter spring summer and fall. So do we.
Fish has many seasons.
Winter.. Pre spawn... Spawn... Post Spawn... Summer... Fall (feeding frenzy)... Fall Transistion... And back to winter.....
Sometimes it might be better to study up on these fish seasons or movements... Example my findings is in Arizona 53 degrees and lower its mostly a winter pattern.
Hope this helped some.

Pop R top water plug is not too hard to learn.... The old way was toss it out ket it sit till the ring is near gone(the ring is the after effect when your pop r splashed the water) most use mono because it floats and keeps bait from tangling with the line.
Practice the cadence to what fish want
Simply twitch it back to boat reeling only the slack. They are cheap and hardley ever lose them too.

Texas rigged worm is easy too.
Good Luck

Thanks Doug.
Do you know if you have to have a certain trolling motor?
My research has been tough on this product... It appears you need a certain model or models of trolling motor.
Thoughts?
