Humminbird Helix 7
Replaced an elite7 with a helix7, didn’t have anytime to play with my boat in the shop all year. When I put in on standby in the standard sonar and take it off standby it goes to mapping and you have to scroll thru all the settings to get back to sonar. This is a real pain with it being on the bow of my boat. Any way I can fix this? Thank you!
Frank, I have a helix as well. I'll take a look at this next time I'm out. What do you mean by "put it on standby" is that what they call it? I don't recall that setting.
Well with my Lowrance you pushed the power button one time scroll down to standby, I did this when I stowed the trolling motor so when I went to my next spot and dropped the trolling motor back in the water there was no lapse in sonar to pick up bottom. I can get the helix on standby but when I drop my trolling motor to fish and take it off standby it goes to mapping???
How do you get the Helix on standby? I'm just not familiar with the setting. I also have a Lowrance, but it's a 2007 unit, and I don't believe it has that setting.
I believe it’s the same, try pushing the power button once and see if something pops up and scroll down to standby. I have no power on my boat at the moment and it’s been since June since I have played with the unit
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Frank... reading your post, I will assume you have not used your Humminbird units since your last post on 2018-12-08. I also have the Helix units and whenever I put the bow unit on standby, I take it out of standby prior to pulling the trolling motor out of the water. No particular reason, that's just what I did. I also have not been on the water for a few months, however I can't recall having the "goes to mapping" issue that you're experiencing. I'm wondering if pulling the transducer out of the water while the Humminbird unit is in standby mode is causing the unit to go to mapping. Once you get on the water again, try taking the unit out of standby mode prior to pulling your trolling motor and please let us know if that solves the issue. If not we will be glad to help you further.
To be clear , I think Standby keeps your unit from pinging the open air and prematurely wearing out the transducer, therefore I think the user is aware of this , thus why he wants to use standby as well as save battery a tad.
Wish he come back and let us know.
My take is the unit has gps
Say you at a lake... Prior to removing boat alot guys either turn off sonar pinging but leave unit on... Maybe to look at tracking when boat on trailer.
Once move unit say go home or no longer use standbye i suspect GPS gets engages again and tries to locate lake your on. I recall this happens to me when power up unit. Example say i fish lake pleasant... Power off unit park boat. Week later i go to lake havasu.
First time power on it tries to find me and map shows up.
I realise he talking standbye but say he only uses base maps and his lake not in list.... I believe power on or standybye off it always tries to locate you via a map if possible.
Dunno sounds normal to me
