Wish he come back and let us know.

My take is the unit has gps
Say you at a lake... Prior to removing boat alot guys either turn off sonar pinging but leave unit on... Maybe to look at tracking when boat on trailer.

Once move unit say go home or no longer use standbye i suspect GPS gets engages again and tries to locate lake your on. I recall this happens to me when power up unit. Example say i fish lake pleasant... Power off unit park boat. Week later i go to lake havasu.
First time power on it tries to find me and map shows up.
I realise he talking standbye but say he only uses base maps and his lake not in list.... I believe power on or standybye off it always tries to locate you via a map if possible.

Dunno sounds normal to me

However just watched a bassutv video
Ike showed pictures of lowrance structures scan (side scan) and i was blown away at the 3d view the picture was diagonal... Never seen that but on raymarine

I have a david fritts lews crankin rod for med to big plugs... Super in expensive like79 bucks.
Not sure if they make one with skinnier handle. Only thing I dislike is the fat handle.
I also crank small square bills with an avid x st croix.
and use some shimano rods too

Next i really love the g loomis e6x
I have 2 of those for cranking... Super light... Comfy thin handles.

Ike is certainly a good choice
If nothing else his background from what I learned... In other words the type of finiky fisheries.
Kinda like Bill Lowen Scenarios.
Thanks for your reply.

Jason Im sure Matt willing to help

Just keep in mind some spools have a pin that must be knocked out before bearing comes off. Should really be done with the special tool to prevent hurting a delicate spool shaft.

Im sure Matt can help you.

Topic: Moon Phases

I'd say The Dean is Spot On.
I would add this next part... And lived this without knowing why... But thru BassU... I learned that just before the first full moon After Spawn (typically in June) ... It is good time to catch those post spawn bass in or near spawn areas before they go to summer spots.

Topic: Cashion Rod Owners

I am seriously thinking of getting 4 cashion rods.
Curious of Cashion rod owners which rods do you have
and what do you use them for. I am trying to come up with 2 spinning and 2 casting setups.

So far I am interested in john crews square bill and drop shot
I like his drop shot because its long all my current drop shot rods are short.

What is modulous rating do they use i.e. st croix for example
uses their own rating of sc2 to like sc5

Any relevant input welcome

Unfortunately the reality is the pros do fish multi day tournies.
I highly doubt their talks are only geared for these scenarios.

I see you are rated as a graduate of BassU.
If you use electronics I would use this to your advantage.
The Dean did a video on Forage...what bass eat.
I would study this.

1. understand bass movements
2. use google earth to find spots
3. understand what bass might eat in your body of water
4. understand weather and its effects on fish
5. time managment....you might be on a good spot but the fish
may not bite at the time you are fishing
6. sometimes practice might be best served marking with gps
rather than fishing.
7. sometimes junk fishing is your friend...have lots techniques ready when you approach diff scenarious as cruise a bank for example.
8. I personally avoid dock talk...let the fish tell you
9. Understand a few things like what i call exceptions
my rule of exceptions is there will be bass in what i call all 4 corners of the lake. This is important...to many times you catch a fish or two in practice and think thats gonna be the deal.
Are they the right fish?
If the body of water is unfamiliar to you...here is what i do
I use good mapping, google earth, past history of lake found online.
Understanding Bass Movements by Season and Exceptions:
1. I try to find areas where they would spawn in masses
2. I try to find the best winter haunts
3. Now i can play this movement of bass out with maps
i.e. from the deep to main lake points, secondary points onto spawn flats etc.
4.
I work a lake backwards .....
I do an educated guess on a spawning area
I then follow secondary points, main lake points etc on maps
to help me understand the routes bass take.
Knowing that Bass love to use river channels, roadbeds, creek channels, channel swings to migrate...in other words this is the under water highway system.
I start with winter. I know in Winter, Bass will try to pick the very best spots on a lake...they are cold lethargic. Ever wonder why
Bass can be fat in winter? cause they dont move they dont burn calories. Further proof they do not move much in winter. And we know they may not eat every day in winter. Also most cases
when find them in winter, it will be the motherload.
The Winter Mother Load might be determined on what is the size of structure they are holding to. So there maybe multiple
Mother Load spots.
All of this is typically done at home as research.
This two prong approach (estimating a spawning area and working it back to winter areas) helps narrow down the migration of bass. Then you still do your homework
you self check yourself in practice on water using maps on electronics and fish finder. Did the area i think was a spawning area or spawning flat have a hard bottom...check
Do the migration from spawn to winter...secondary points main lake points etc show road beds creek channels river channels
on my map...check . Now this will be one scenario i can work with come tourney day. Now i try to duplicate this so i have
another area to do the same homework.

If you believe your tourney will start post spawn but not summer. Use your skills and knowledge to work that out.
I.E. often the case the males stay close to nest, often females
move out little deeper to rest and feed up.

exceptions and there are many in bass fishing...come summer
many fish live deep but can feed shallow...its timing thing
and some fish almost always live shallow they just might burrow in heavy cover....weather or shade can make them reachable.

still post spawn.... if they spawn in creek arms
break the arm into thirds (1/3).
Did the females (typically bigger fish) make it out of creek
into main lake? break the creek down to mouth of creek to mid to spawn area. If beat bank and only catching fry guarders, see if you can spot fry. If see fry you might move tad away from nest area try deeper....no bites move more out of creek to try intercept those feeding females...eventually working your way to mouth of creek(main lake) if need be.

Summer....often fish spread out...this is why i believe alot folks
try to cover water picking fish off one by one along bank.

Topic: BASS U TESTING

Do you think there would come a day
where BassU would allow a written exam?
Sounds rediculous maybe to some folks
but I think it would go along with the theme of the name Bass University.
Each Pro could be allowed to submit questions and answers to the BassU team. I would be in favor of even large numbers of questions.

Topic: JT Kenny Water Temp

Hello all,
Just watched JT on water temp.
I typically in life like to use analogies.
JT actually gave the juice on this video on a hard topic. For those that are new, but new does not mean new to fishing although it could. For those that have been trying to wrap your head around temps. This analogy should help.
Here goes. Bass are cold blooded, if you pull a steak or 2lb of hamburger out of freezer place on counter room temp, it could take hours to thaw.
If you place in microwave under defrost button it speeds things up. And maybe most important JT is saying. Bass metabolism is tied closely to warming and cooling trends. Too often humans think of fishing based on weather and temp of our comfort zone or in some cases discomfort.
If it is say 100 degrees out and maybe humid
You are melting but then get in your truck and turn on a/c. You get relief Fairly quickly. Well humans are warm blooded, our bodies trying to maintain internally a desired temp, bass blood temp changes with water temp and trending conditions.

Awesome seminar JT

Hello, Love what you do at bassutv keep it up.
I know at one time we did not have a app.
If i may ask nicely some observations on app.
They are not rants....i might be doing something wrong. Here goes.
1. On live sessions can some one give Greg Dapalma (spelling) a better mic? I have to crank up volume then someone else talks and my wife bitches, she can hear a mouse piss on cotton.

2. Trying to figure out if i could use app without watching video so i can listen at work, when my screen goes dark or you know i want phone locked it no longer plays, but my podcast player can work in this manner.
3. I have hard time finding forums when in app
Im looking for easy way.
4.

Guys I made a small mistake kinda.
I fish out of a bass boat but alot of my fishing
Is in a ultraskiff 360 love this little boat.
I purchased a humminbird gen 3 mega Si. Non networking model.
I have two transducers one for round boat, 1 for bass boat.
My question is, my next purchase will be a 360 networking model . Then a networking counsel model. I cant afford the big screens. So plan is once outfit bass boat with networking model and 360 network model i will keep my non network model at home for my ultraskiff boat, but in occasional tournies was wondering if i could use
My non network model as a maping device only
Without transducer hooked up?

The other reason i ask is if im a back seater
Would like to bring my unit with just for mapping
And saved gps, some guys i fish with dont use humminbird and so i don't want to convert all my juice spots from humminbird format to say gpx and give guy all my spots...where as if i just provide power im hoping can use unit without a transducer

More often than not , this gets me too. Its so hard to skunk me, but getting over the hump is tough.
I mean another analogy is partners always pick on me for using lite line even on moving baits.
Ive watched enough bassu to fjnally change my line size to bigger lbs test but i always responded
Hey first step is to hook the big gal i can worry how to land her next lol.
