I have caught a few 10 pound bass over the years. I'm still looking for an 11 pounder. The baits were a lippless crankbait, swimbait, and flick shake. All were caught in Feb, March and April.

In reading tons of guide reports I learned most recommended throwing a jig in search of lunker and black/blue was the best color. That's when I started throwing a jig myself, built my confidence in it's ability to catch fish and landed my PB on one.

All my biggest fish have come on topwater baits. I've caught some 6-7lbs (the biggest was on a Pop-R). I've never caught a bass over 8lbs.

My PB (7.13) was when I was 17 years old and fishing with my dad at Bull Shoals. I was that knuckle headed 17 year old that didn't believe my dad, and I wanted to be power fishing off of the bank with a swim bait. But my dad calmly said there is a really good brush pile out here on this ledge that I always find good fish on, I'm over there rolling my eyes at him, like I've heard this before dad.... He handed me a 7'4" Heavy rod with an old ambassador reels on it spooled with 20 pound line, and at the end was a 1oz football head Black and Blue Jig with a Uncle Josh #11 Black chunk. He told me to throw it out off the front of the boat and just let it sit on the bottom for a few seconds, and give it a sharp but quick jerk. So again thinking in my teenager mind "this is just a big waste of time" I did what he said to do. When I jerked the jig I had some line that rolled up on the water. I remember it like it was yesterday, that roll of line went bye bye and the heavy tipped rod bent down hard and with all I had, I yelled "DAD I GOT ONE"!! I started to reel and that poor ambassador reel's drag was smoking, and my dad kept telling keep him tight keep him tight!! Finally I got him to the top of the water, and that big bucket mouth opened up. We all know that over whelming feeling when you see that. My dad scooped him up with the net. Ever since that day you will find me on those hot summer days with my SI going and me trolling those drop offs looking for piles of brush or rocks, and I always have a good Ol Black and Blue tied on.

Documented PB was 7.5 in Illinois
Looked to be a Florida Strain
Was at a State Park in Mchenry County
I believe game and fish was doing experiments. I learned the size of bass in this one little state park lake(one of many lakesbin park close to ranger station) by week before a guy was testing a bait for a southern illinois tourney.... Berkley Power Slug... Not the same as a Slugo.
He caught 2 fish in front of my buddy and I that burried his scale we freaked
Cause Illinois bass in north not that big.
I could not find his bait so i used a Black
salamander lizard with white dot. Spinning gear.

Next in Arizona
Spinning gear no scale... I tell folks it was 7.5 but my gut says 9lbs on pop r
Parallel bank early morning... ABSOLUTE GIANT TO ME.

9.5 on a Snagless Sally!!!! That's amazing. I haven't used that lure in years. Great to see it still catches them.

23 years ago I caught a 9lb bass pond fishin. I was using an Ugly Stick rod paired with a Zebco 33 with 15lb mono. I can’t remember the brand of worm but it was a brown and orange ribbon tail and I was throwing it weightless. When I start thinking if my equipment is adequate, I have to remind myself I used to catch big bass as a kid with an Ugly Stick and a Zebco.

Ive caught a lot of bass on a snaggless sally. one of those lures you dont hear about much anymore. my dad was raised in south mississippi and so i grew up fishing the pascagoula river... the snagless sally is a big deal there. everyone has a sally in their boat. i havent fished in mississippi in years as I live in north louisiana now. i went to the Harris chain Florida last march and caught a bunch on the ole sally. anywho, i caught my PB on the Red River in Bossier City, LA on a white zoom trick worm rigged wacky on a weedless hook. 9.5 lbs.
