braid to fluorocarbon leader using microguides
what is the best knot to use for braid to fluoro when your rods (st croix avid x) have microguides to allow long casts or should you just use straight fluoro or braid and no leader at all
I have a avid x and i opt for blood knot.
Most will tell you the fg knot is your knot. I trust tactical bassin youtube guys they use blood knot and i love it.

Alberto Knot 200% all of the time for me. It has never once failed me. Takes practice to get it right, spent an entire evening practicing with braid to fluoro and I haven’t looked back since. Not only do you get more cast ability but you also save line. Braid lasts much longer (mainline) and shorter strands of fluoro mean longer lasting spools. That’s my 2 cents at least.
I use a double uni-knot to tie all my main to leader lines. It's small and compact. I have micro guides on all my custom built rods and haven't had an issue yet.
I started with the double uni and went to the Alberto. I had issues with both of them. Mind you not often but here and there and it drove me nuts. I committed to learning the FG knot and haven’t have an issue yet this year. Wheeler and MDJ both have good videos on it. Using your reel handle to help tie it makes it a breeze. You can do it in the wind easily as well. I could do an Alberto on a windy day but the double uni not so much.

I prefer the fg knot to attach leaders in both freshwater and salt. It takes some practice but provides a thin secure knot with multiple half hitches added, protects the knot when winding back thru your guides.
When are you guys prefer using that braid to a leader or what applications
I've been using the double uni, but once I'm done fixing my boat I'm going to learn the FG.
I haven't had any issues with the double uni, but with the small micro I do have to watch the knot as it will frey and I'll have to retie. Usually on a day that I am using that combination a lot I'll have to retie it once.
BUT... on my Nano guides, I have to run straight braid or straight Floro. I'm hoping the FG will work in them, but I'm not going to old my breath.
FG is a little slow to tie, but goes through the guides better than anything else. My least fav to tie but my fav to ish with by far.
I also use the Alberto knot 100% of the time, with 0% fail so far. Now, I am using light lines, so that's a consideration. If I was using 50lb braid to 15lb fluoro, you could probably hear it clank through every guide. Usually if I'm using a baitcaster with a leader, I'm only using a leader that's a 1.5-2 feet long and I don't reel it into the guides. I only reel smaller lines line 10lb braid to 6-8lb fluoro through the guides on a spinning rod. Also, I may be wrong about this, but I tie a couple of overhand knots with the braid when I'm done tying an alberto knot, I feel like it adds a little protection for the otherwise exposed bend in the fluorocarbon line that will hit the guides when you reel it back in.
Blake, I use braid to fluoro on almost all of my spinning rod applications. For most applications on baitcasting gear, I'm using straight fluoro, braid, or mono.
