I read an article about Iaconelli patterning mayflies. From talking to a lot of pros, it's hard to know who did things first, as opposed to who invented them. Mike talks about the oil trick on crankbaits, but I've heard him in another video credit Terry Scroggins for it. Another example, I saw dudes fishing a thing they called a "spreader rig" (usually 2 big swimbaits) well before an Alabama rig. Martens is certainly an "observer", and he certainly likes to perfect things.
