Humminbird Electronics questions.
Hey guy's, Greg DiPalma here. I just wanted to put a post out there for anyone with questions on their Humminbird units whether it’s a Helix, Solix or a 360 product. Feel free to ask me any questions you guys have!
Greg,
I have a question. Do you know if it's possible to network a Helix G2N with the Helix G3N? If so, do you know the limitations? I have a Helix 10 KVD edition at the console, and want to add another unit at the front that shares transducer and waypoints. Not sure if I have to buy another G2N. Currently, I have a Lowrance at the front, but getting a lot of interference between the two transducers.
Hey Jason, G2N and G3N will network together and share everything as long as all the software is up to date and the same.
Hi Greg,
I have a new Helix 9msi g3n on my Ultrex networked with a 2018 helix 7 si g2n in the console.
I often turn the sonar off on the 9, usually with the console powered down or in standby.
When I turn the sonar back on on the 9 it doesn't come back on, and it may take multiple power down/up cycles to get the sonar back. Not a really big deal, but irritating.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or what may be going wrong?
When’s the last time you did a update? Every unit need to have the same software and up to date.
H9 & Ultrex installed in Feb, dealer updated everything then.
Just to make sure and rule this out I would go into each unit. Go to system status at the top and check and make sure ever unit has the same version software. Also check and see if the software is 2.180. That’s the most up to date.
The 7g2n is way down-level. I had to order an old 32gb micro SD card - all I have are 64gb, unsupported. When it comes in I will update and report back.
Thanks...
Ok, get it up to date and then will see if the issue continues... ttys
Just out of curious when updating your helix unit to the update software vi 32 G card. After installing software on the console helix is it possible to simply put the card into the bow helix and update it as well. Or do I need to go back to the computer and re download the file to the card. Instructions on you tube from humminbird web page seems simple. They just don’t specify if you can update all 3 units from one trip to the computer.
Kyle,
Same card will do all your units. No need to go back to your computer after you have done the update download. They recommend taking out any other cards in other slots during a update tho. Map cards, waypoint cards, etc....
Why do their product consistently break? I've had to send in the 15" Solix and the 12" Solix because the touchscreen stops working? You'd think for the price paid for these, that they would actually work well. They have fixed them and they do it quick, but where is the quality control?
I have a question. I just purchased my first 2 Humminbird products. Solix 12 and Solix 10. I am trying to get the river depth to show up on the chart. What setting do I need to adjust to get this? I know with my Lowrance, It was already programed. I get nervous running our River with water levels raising and lowering. I kind of feel naked not knowing the depths. Does it come out of the box with this data or do I need to buy a chip?
You probably need the map cards, the default maps on my unit were 20' depth contours, which may very well be no contours on the river.
Ok, but as I read it, it is suppose to come with Basemap out of the box. On the Humminbird website, Basemap shows it has the Columbia River covered. How do I get the Basemap working?
Unfortunately, without seeing what you're seeing, I can't confirm, but when I go to Lake Norman, I get the water's edge and no contours in water less than 20 ft. At first, I thought there were no contour lines at all. Thankfully, parts of Norman are very deep, so once I got out of coves and backwaters, I realized they were there. If you know you're in water over 20ft, you should see some contour lines, but with such a broad contour scale, I can't imagine it would be of much help for navigational safety.
I appreciate your help. I have ordered Lake Master Chips. Seems like for what I paid for them, they should be included. Oh well. Excited to learn these machines.
A multi-millionaire I once new told me, "I'll pay you $100 for a steak dinner, but don't charge me another $5 for a baked potato". I later found out he wasn't just sharing a life lesson. An upscale steak restaurant that he frequented had started charging for every item, $5 for this, $5 for that. To my knowledge, he never went back. I did learn a valuable lesson that I've tried to apply in my life and business. Represent fairly what people should expect, meet or exceed that expectation and give them a fair price.
Right now, I keep an old unit on the boat because it's got contour lines, I think they are 4ft.
Need some info on why my brand new graph which has been updated to recent updates. Then installed the mega 360. Shows in accessorie test that it ain’t connected. First I thought it was connections which I proved not to be the case. I then hooked up my G3N SI helix and it connected immediately. Any thoughts of why the new helix 12 Mega DI GPS G3N doesn’t see mega 360. Could it be the connector that instructs from mega 360 manual and humminbird online wiring diagram to use adapter from graph to y cable 720108-B. Will be loosing sleep on this situation. Humminbird tech support has no answers.
If you or anyone knows the solution. Greatly appreciated
Kyle - I have had some similar issues with my Mega 360 being read by my Helix MDI G3N unit, but connects fine to Helix MSI G3N. I just started running the 360 to the MSI unit, and sharing the data with the MDI unit. Not ideal, but it solves the problem. Good luck!
Guys
I’ve have 2 Solix 12’s on the console and 1 Solix 12 at the bow (along with a Garmin at the bow). Been running these Solix’s from the beginning. The Solix’s have updated software and I am always diligent about updating all graphs. On a number of occasions the touch screen does not work. Sometimes I can get touch screen to start working when I reboot the graphs, sometimes not. What almost always happens is that the graphs work so slowly they are almost useless. I fish Bass Champs, TTT and TTO and spend considerable time pre fishing and marking waypoints. The graphs are so slow I cannot effectively mark waypoints putting me at a serious disadvantage. Its especially frustrating when I travel hours to a lake, stay at some crappy hotel away from my family to try to prepare for a tournament and can’t because of Humminbird. All H-bird customer service people say is they have “never heard of that before”... anybody had similar problem and is there a solution?
The Humminbird 360 should be mounted on a transom with live scope, Mine mounts on a jack plate with brake away safety no screwing in the boat. I use a Linear actuator mounted on a transom this one is better than the one Humminbird stopped making. Remember you only deploy at idle, you don't have to let trolling motor down this is very important when scouting for structure Yes you lose 20 feet upfront but you gain 20 feet on the back this is good for river fishing backflow bumping with spot lock! You let the current carry your bait to the fish !
Dr Musk : Space X Owner has given several speeches about artificial intelligence is more dangerous than nuclear weapons . He has said this many times he is right of course.
Hey GDP,
Helix 7, MSI, transom mounted transducer. Depth stops reading around 16mph no matter what mode I'm in, (2D, down, etc;). It's been adjusted 6 ways to Sunday, but can't seem to get it going.
I've installed many units and never had this issue. Do the side imaging transducers not read depth above idle speed?
The Transom mounted transducer is only for low speeds. If your looking for readout at high speeds you’ll need to install a thru hull transducer. No one makes a high speed transducer for SI or DI. The thru hull however will give you 2d readout at high speeds. (bottom composition and depth). You’ll also need a Y-cable so you can tie the two transducers together unless your running it to multiple graphs.
