Do to space issues I am limited to 5 rods on the boat (fishing out of a Bass Tracker Classic). If you were going to fish this time of year (June - August) in the Harris Chain of Lakes, what 4 or 5 rods setups would you bring with you out on the water?
It seems like a lot has changed over the past 40 plus years while I was working a lot and fishing very little! Any suggestions you can throw to this, new to Florida old guy, would be appreciated.
Thanks Jason. I'll start working my way thru these!
When, if ever, do you check the water temperature other than the surface temperature given by your electronics? Here in Central Florida I'm showing 85+ degrees on my Helix 7. Should I be trying to find cooler subsurface water? Is there a way to use today's electronics to find underwater springs, etc? The lakes I'm fishing are shallow and have heavy vegetation (Lake Griffin, Lake Harris).
Thanks in advance for any help with this!
As I'm watching these videos I hear references to "this time of year" and "in this area" . Would it be possible to put the video recording Month and Location? I believe this would help everyone with a point of reference for the comments and suggestions being made.
I am getting a ton of valuable information out of the Bass U TV videos! Thank you guys.
Thanks Jason!
Thanks for the feedback. I never thought about the bare spot for springs but I start looking for them now!
Thank you so much. I just watched JT's video and I definitely got some ideas from it.
BTW, I really liked the ability to download the slides so I could stop the video and look at the specific slide!
Questions from Central Florida.
When fishing 5-8 feet of water (with an abundance of weeds!) and the clarity goes from 1 foot of visibility to 5 feet or more. Will the fish be holding in the clearer water or around the edges? One of the spots of clear water was about 100 yards long and about 20 yards wide, with scattered weed patches the size of small cars. The water around the clear section was muddy with thick vegetation growing up to about a foot from the surface.
Also, could a spot like this indicate a fresh water spring and if so is that a good place for largemouth bass?
I saw in an earlier comment that the most common mounting locations are either on the trolling motor head unit or on the trolling motor shaft. I have a Minn Kota Terrova 80/MDI and given the storage position and the built in transducer, I don't see a way to mount the speaker on the trolling motor.
If I mount the speaker on the transom will it still be effective? Or should I look for a portable, hang over the side mount that would keep the speaker facing forward?
Any suggestions or feedback will be appreciated! BTW, if it matters I am mounting this on a 2020 Bass Tracker 195 TXW TE.
Does anyone use flotation pods on their bass boats? I have a new Bass Tracker 195 TXW w/ a 150 Mercury Four Stroke plus batteries and I'm getting a lot of backsplash over the transom. I'm looking to add a jack plate and a set of Talon Shallow Water Anchors and I'm concerned that these additions will make the backsplash issue even worse.
If flotation pods are not the answer, does anyone have suggestions for minimizing the backsplash issue? I'm hoping that a different boat is not the solution since I'm sure my wife would not see the humor in that!
In case anyone else was wondering...
Talked with a local FLW Pro and he said that he would not recommend adding pods to a bass boat. He suggested moving my two trolling motor batteries to the front storage compartment should help rebalance the boat after the Talon's are added. I also discussed this with the folks from Tracker Marine and they agreed with the solution.
It turns out that the clear water was water that had been flushed out of a marsh/wetland area with recent rains. A local guide also shared with me that the bass typically do hold near the "seem" so they can ambush their pray.
Just wanted to share what I had learned!
Thanks Jason. I do plan to move to lithium batteries but I hope to get a couple of years out of the ones currently in the boat. I had not thought about the weight of tackle. I now have moved all the "heavy" tackle stuff forward in the boat.
Thanks again!
Douglas, thanks for the reply. I don't have a jack plate but they do sell a simple mount for the transom. Do you feel your unit was effective when mounted on the transom?
Is there a way to search the Forum database to see if a question has already been asked and answered?
I am looking to replace my two 12V lead acid batteries with a Lithium battery setup for my 24V trolling motor. It seems like the cost and weight of one 24V compared to two 12V batteries is very similar. Other than space requirements, are there any other advantages of one setup over the other?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks Jason. I was leaning toward the two 12V but I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something!
Can I add another year to my membership for $99.99 and get the TackleDirect eGift Card?
