Clear water pockets in muddy water lake

Gene J. - graduate

Questions from Central Florida.

When fishing 5-8 feet of water (with an abundance of weeds!) and the clarity goes from 1 foot of visibility to 5 feet or more. Will the fish be holding in the clearer water or around the edges? One of the spots of clear water was about 100 yards long and about 20 yards wide, with scattered weed patches the size of small cars. The water around the clear section was muddy with thick vegetation growing up to about a foot from the surface.

Also, could a spot like this indicate a fresh water spring and if so is that a good place for largemouth bass?

It turns out that the clear water was water that had been flushed out of a marsh/wetland area with recent rains. A local guide also shared with me that the bass typically do hold near the "seem" so they can ambush their pray.

Just wanted to share what I had learned!
