50 Lb braided?

fishin_n_sippin - sophomore

In a lot of these videos I'm hearing the pros say 25 lb braided line or 65 lb braided line. are they talking about the breaking strength of the braided line being 25 or 65? Or when they say 65 lb braided line are they using a line with 120ish lb breaking strength?

They are talking about breaking strength. I fish 10lb braid on my spinning reel in ultra clear water, it's 4lb diameter equivalent to mono. So, I would guess that 65lb. braid is probably about as big as 14-16lb. mono diameter.

Braided line has a weird system of #test rating. I can't say I truly understand it. Gamma Line that has a 40# test rating has an 8# test diameter and about a 55# breaking strength. So I would say that the pound test rating is usually just below its breaking strength. The diameter of the line seems unrelated to its breaking strength.
