Grass Jig & Swim Jig

Hey guys is there really a difference between a Grass Jig and a Swim Jig? Or are they basically the same?

Most legitimate swimjigs (IMO) will have a 30 degree bend hook and most grass jig will have just a straight hook with no bend. From what I have seen, a 30 degree bend vertical hook is the best hook for a swim jig, it comes through grass nicely and over wood good. I tend to stay away from horizontal hook swim-jigs. But to answer your question I guess a grass jig could
work as a swim jig in open water or around grass, I would be careful around brush/wood.

No problem! A swim jig is my favorite bait of all time. Bill Lowen has a good seminar on swim jigs you should check out https://bassu.tv/bass-fishing-video/fishing-swim-jigs-bill-lowen . It’s a very detail technique. From the rod, reel, line to the jig itself. Very similar to how technical frog fishing can be.

The main difference between a swim jig and a grass jig is the hook. A good swim jig has a lighter wire hook than a standard flipping jig or grass jig. This is required due to the long casts required with a swim jig. With all that line out, you need a lighter wire hook to get good hook penetration. Great referral Derek on the Bill Lowen seminar. I agree that his swim jig seminar is one of our best and is also one of our most viewed. D&L Tackle Swim Jigs is the best swim jig I've found and I use it almost everyday I'm on the water.

Thanks Pete! I agree with you on the lighter wire hook for long cast for good hook penetration. But don’t forget about the beefy swim jigs either for thick heavy cover. Such as the hack attack swim jig https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_Hack_Attack_Heavy_Cover_Swim_Jig/descpage-SKHASJ.html or the 6th Sense Divine Braid Swim Jig https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/6th_Sense_Divine_Braid_Swim_Jig/descpage-6DBRD.html#customer_reviews both of these are great in thick heavy cover where braided line is required. IMO there are many different styles of swim jig fishing and all have there time and place. My favorite way to fish a swim jig is skipping under over hanging trees with a stout beefy swim jig with either a rage craw or the new spicy beaver by reaction innovations.
