JP : Fishing Forum Posts

Hello All,

I have an upcoming tournament at night and I have little experience fishing for largemouth at night. It will take place in late July in the Northeast. I have done some research and found some basics of colors and lure types. Any tips or suggestions would be great. TY

Within that price range check out the St Croix Mojo Bass Glass Crank rod in heavy action 7' 2" https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/St_Croix_Mojo_Bass_Glass_Crankbait_Casting_Rods/descpage-NMBG.html If you can spare more $ check out the Bret Hite combat stick https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Evergreen_Brett_Hite_Combat_Stick_Casting_Rods/descpage-COMX.html or the Kistler feel n Reel Rod https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Kistler_Feel_N_Reel_Casting_Rods/descpage-KFNRR.html. All 3 work great for chatterbaits. These suggestions are more geared towards using the rod for chatterbaits (BTW use the jackhammer instead its well worth the extra $)

If its says polarized then that the glasses are polarized. Often times you will just see the UV label on glasses which is NOT a polarized lens and is essentially useless. A lot of the time the glasses will come with a tester card with an image you can only see if the glasses are polarized. I kept a few of these to test glasses because some cheaper ones claim to be polarized and are not. I got a pair of Wiley X glasses myself after seeing a number of the anglers use them. They really are great lenses with a noticeable difference in being able to see through the water. I personally like these for the eye coverage https://wileyx.com/wx-tobi-sunglasses-actob04. If you shop around you should be able to find them cheaper . I got mine off ebay for $80 new. Hope that helps and happy fishing!

I have the same unit in the 9" Turn on Genesis live overlay and it will map everything! I fish smaller lakes that have no charts and this function is invaluable. The unit will save all the data and you can analyse it later just like you want. Put the largest size micro SD card the unit will take ( I think 32Gb) to make sure you have plenty of storage space. Keep in mind this will only map depth contours. Any structure or other way points you will need to add manually as you find them or choose them from your recorded charts based on the info. Hope that helps and feel free to ask anything. Ive had mine for about a year now so Ill answer anything I can for you.

Justin - your only other option with the Carbon 12 is the StructureScan 3D Transducer. This will give you more detail than the total scan transducer and a wider side scan range. Some people like the 3D feature and some don't so I'd rec checking one out in a marine store on demo mode first if you can.
