Best rod for jigging, Texas rig, and chatterbaits

DYLAN N - freshman

I’m looking for suggestions on what power I should get. I just bought a 13 fishing concept z reel and I’m going to use it for inshore flats and for bass using it for jigging Texas rig and chatterbait. Also looking for suggestions on brands as well. Price range is around $150. Thanks!

Hey Dylan,
There are 2 schools of thought with chatterbait rods. I'm of the opinion that you want some give, so I use a softer rod tip for chatterbaits than I do for texas rig and jigs. I do lose some casting accuracy. If you wanted an all-around rod, I would go with a MH fast action, but I wouldn't use braid on the chatterbait. Check out the Cashion ICON Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy/Fast Worm & Jig and Cashion ICON Casting Rod 7'3" Med Hvy Worm & Jig at https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=c1UQEdGla5o&mid=38416&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tackledirect.com%2Fcashion-icon-casting-rods.html

Within that price range check out the St Croix Mojo Bass Glass Crank rod in heavy action 7' 2" https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/St_Croix_Mojo_Bass_Glass_Crankbait_Casting_Rods/descpage-NMBG.html If you can spare more $ check out the Bret Hite combat stick https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Evergreen_Brett_Hite_Combat_Stick_Casting_Rods/descpage-COMX.html or the Kistler feel n Reel Rod https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Kistler_Feel_N_Reel_Casting_Rods/descpage-KFNRR.html. All 3 work great for chatterbaits. These suggestions are more geared towards using the rod for chatterbaits (BTW use the jackhammer instead its well worth the extra $)

Cashion does make a chatter bait specific rod. I use one and it’s great.

I know this thread is a little older, and you have probably already purchased a rod, but I just became aware of the Brandon Cobb Ark series rods. It looks like they have glowing reviews and is priced below $100! All 15 current reviews on Tackle Warehouse are good (which is rare, as you almost always have the 1 or 2 guys that just aren't convinced a sub-$100 rod can be good). Either way, the series has a 7'3" MH Glass and 7'3" MH Fast for whichever way you want to go with your chatterbait fishing rod. Obviously, the 7'3" MH Fast will be your choice if you also want to fish jigs and Texas rigs.
