Spotted bass vs Largemouth

I’ve figured out how spotted bass are in a river when it comes to clarity and current. My next event at West Point has a lot of spotted bass and want to know how does one target them on bigger lakes when compared to rivers.

I live near Lake Norman and I find that spotted bass "roam" a lot more. They usually aren't as tight to cover and are more willing to follow their food source. My wife and I also fish for crappie, white perch and striped bass, and we often also catch spotted bass, once we find the bait that attracts these other species.

West Point lake is where I grew up fishing and the spotted bass have consistently gotten bigger over the recent years. Target the lower end of the lake, the long points with clay and rock and humps will hold them nearly year round. Another place that’s a consistent spotted bass hang out is the bridges on the main lake. They tend to hang around the cleaner, deeper water areas. Baits like jerkbaits, small swimbaits, neko rigs, Ned rigs and finesse jigs will catch them every time! - Rob Jordan
