livewell disinfection?!

BassHole Lodge - freshman

Buddy of mine told me there was some chatter here about disinfecting live wells between trips. Makes sense to kill bacterial and biofilm that holds bacteria. Keep fish and bait alive longer and get rid of stink too. I saw comments recently from Bill Dance on this subject but have not found it here. Anyone heard of where to get the product Dance talks about? I think its called PureMarine...supposedly kills the bacteria...it's not just for odor control. I'd like to find it in a store so I don't have to pay shipping.

Here's an article on wired to fish. https://www.wired2fish.com/fish-biology/how-to-quickly-and-safely-clean-your-livewells/
It is my understanding that you should NEVER use bleach, no matter how diluted. Naturally, that was my, and probably many people's, first inclination.
I hope this helps.

The product that Bill is using is called Pure Marine from the Deception Outdoor Group.
It’s awesome. I use it as a spray to kill orders on my equipment or just dump it in my live well. I left about 3 inches of water in my live well after a tournament back in August, after two weeks of being at work I gagged when I opened it back up.
A friend of mine told me about the Pure Marine so I tried it. I put their fast gas in my live well and after a few hours I opened up and it smelt like a brand new boat.
Now I used their spray on all my equipment and spray my wolves wells out after fishing.
Knowing that it kills the smell and also kills the bacteria was the icing on the cake for me.
Try it, it’s worth it. You won’t be disappointed.
Good luck

The advantage to the pure marine. Is once it’s gassed off it turns into water so it is environmentally friendly

Thanks, Mike. So they have a liquid spray and a gas? I think I'm interested in spray. You spray down your empty live well when you're done? Do I need to rinse it later? And you state that you pour it in. Are you just pouring in some of the spray bottle? Do you circulate it so it works on all the tubing surfaces too? Bill Dance seemed pretty pumped up about it. I appreciate your feedback.

Basshole lodge. Pure marine is an incredible product not only for your livewells but all different aspects of your boat and the fishing industry. I use mine on my expensive rain suit to extend the life of it by preventing damage in the washer. I also their gas after my boat has been rained on to kill all the Mildew smells it’s as simple as tarp your boat open your boxes and just add water to the canister place it under the tarp and walk away! No left over chemicals just simply throw the canister and enjoy your fresh smelling boat! As for the spray yes just spray it inside your empty livewells close the lids and walk away. Nothing left over but water so no harm is done to future fish!

Basshole, I have done both, just sprayed it in but every couple of months if I’ve been catching a lot of fish, I will put just enough water in my live well to circulate them and then dump a bottle in and let it run.
The advantage is I don’t have to rinse them out because the residue is just water.
Not like using bleach which can cause more damage then do good.
I like the idea of putting cover on and using the fast gas to eliminate any mildew smell from my wet carpet.
