What is your recommendation for rod and reel for fishing Ned Rig in south Louisiana and Mississippi?

I love me a Ned rig... I use a 7ft med rod and a 3000 size reel. I'm typically throwing 30lbs braid with a 6 or 8lbs fluoro leader. It's money!!!!!

I have the Tatula Elite 7'6" Feider spinning rod paired with a 3000 tatula reel. Spooled it with 10# vicious hi-viz braid and 8# flouro leader and its the best Ned rig setup I've ever fished! If that setup isn't within your budget I would suggest a 13 fishing fate black ML-XF rod with a 2500 size Daiwa Fuego...still gonna whack and stack them with the same line.

Depends on what your considering a Ned Rig. Are you looking to throw 1/16 or lighter heads, or are you more concerned with just having a compact bait profile on 1/8 and larger heads. If its the purist form of a Midwest Finesse Rig/Ned Rig then you want the shortest and lightest rod you can comfortably cast those 1/16 heads with. I have typically used a 6' ML Berkley Lightning Rod to cast Ned Rigs from 1/16 upwards of 3/16 with no problem. I could cast larger heads based on the rod, but dont much care for the weighted feeling on the tip. For that Ill step up to my ML 6'9" Carbon Fire Rod. If you are worried about the 6' size of the Lightning Rod, then I would Highly recommend chacking out Lews SG1 that is weighted for those 1/16 heads. While I have not used it personally, I have not had a Lews Product I did not like. Other than that, good luck and tight lines.

I fish very clear water and usually use a 7' med/light fast action rod with a 2500 reel and either 6lb line or 10lb braid (4lb diameter) with 6lb leader. It will cast a mile, which is good for staying away in clear water. I'm surprised I've not caught any crappie with it yet.
