Minn Koda Trolling Motor
I bought a new boat last year and I had a new Minn Koda Ulterra trolling motor installed it is 36 volts 112 pound thrust . I am 65 and have had my share of surgery . The Ulterra will deploy and stow with the press of a button , It has all the bells and whisels . I love it the only thing is I see that the pros are not using the ultera they are using the one that you stow manualy . Why is this are the pros concern the auto deploy and stow will breakdown on them ? Thank you
Hi Douglas
I think you are right on the money about the pros. The concern for breakdown of the auto deploy is probably the reason pros aren't using it. I remember when other trolling motors had this feature and they would get stuck in the down position which prevented anglers from getting their boats on pad. This was ten years ago. They would also deploy while boats where traveling at 70 mph. Minn Kota has exceptional technology and dependability. As such, I don't expect you will have any of these problems. I think you might see the pros starting to phase these in as the motor shows durability. I have the Minn Kota Ultrex and absolutely love it!!!! It has shown durability and exceptional advantages with respect to boat control. Happy Thanksgiving! - Pete Gluszek.
The new deploy stow on the remote you wear around your neck has a lock button so motor can’t deploy . This will change the way ya fish it is awesome . I use the remote around my neck to run motor it is much easier than using pedal . The spot lock auto pilot go to way point contour track I pilot are awesome . You can raise and lower the motor without stowing it . You can go from point to point on lake and power fish without even getting out of driver seat . You just cast from the drivers seat to see if you can get a bite you then run the trolling motor with the remote talk about power fishing it is awesome . Thanks for your help !
Happy New Year Douglas. . . I would like to expand on the The Dean's response. As you and The Dean mentioned above, the manual trolling motors do not have the additional mechanical components as the Ulterra. I think there's one more key component and that is time, though it's only seconds. Let me explain; Having the opportunity to be in the boat with pro-anglers during tournaments, I've witnessed the pros get up out of the cockpit seat, remove their PDF, and drop the trolling motor in a matter of seconds. I've never seen the Ulterra in operation, but I suspect that the pros can engage that manual operated trolling motor quicker then it takes the Ulterra to deploy, and vice versa when taking off.
I just bought a Z19 with manual Ultrix 24 volt 52 in shaft. I installed a TH Marine Trolling Motor Nut and after first use it was pitted and looked horrible. TH marine it was acting as a sacrificial anode and was due probably with issue with trolling motor door pedal. Any ideas of cause??
Bob... I also use the trolling motor nut and I personally have not experienced or heard of a TH Marine trolling motor nut pitting. The explanation provided from TH Marine sounds logical. Maybe Pete Gluszek will chime in on the conversation and provide some info if he has heard of this problem before. Did TH Marine provide any other info?
