River Spotted Bass

SAshmore39 - graduate

Here’s the scenario, central Ga Ocmulgee River is super low because we haven’t had hardly any rain, starting to get really hot. How does one go about finding those spotted bass because I can hardly see the current or find deep water where I can access. This is from the shore by the way.

You may be limited from the bank, as my first guess would indeed be that they would move out to the deeper holes as the summer temps rise and the water falls. I have never fished for spots in a river, so I'm not 100% sure how they behave. In the lake I fish, they are either cruising around other baitfish/predators or sitting on deep ledges for most of the summer. I rarely fish for them in less than 20ft of water. The largemouth are often lazing about in shaded areas or creek channel with some cooler water.

Current is key as the hot weather presses down. Especially in a river situation. Finding areas they neck down will have extra current in a drought situation. Deep water is also key. There is a castable sonar device that works with your smart phone that can help you find deeper water. Its called "Deeper". That will help you find the deepwater holes from the bank.
