Barrel Swivel

MikeyMike - sophomore

When might one use a barrel swivel? (other than a carolina rig) I have heard Ike mention using a barrel swivel for connecting braid to leader. I have heard Aaron Martens mention he will use a barrel swivel with his drop shot sometimes, to reduce line twist. Seems to make sense but it's also not commonly discussed. Can you shine a light on when barrel swivel is appropriate?

I fish a west coast clear water lake and drop shot is the deal much of the year. Trying to up-level my effectiveness of the dropshot. I'm wondering how & when a barrel swivel might help?

Mike,

If you drop shot a lot, I would suggest trying out VMC Spinshot hooks. Its a drop shot hook with a barrel swivel built into it. I've used these with success, and they don't appear to spook the fish, at least in the waters I fish, which range from clear to muddy. Not as clear though as the West Coast waters you are fishing though.
Anuway, they really help in reducing line twist with drop shot rigs. Try 'em.
