Braid backing

adelgadillo77 - sophomore

Hello, I have started to use a baitcaster for the first time this year and trying to bass fish more as well. Is it essential to use a floro or mono backing on braid? Thanks in advance!

Yes, fluoro or mono backings are essential to prevent line slippage with braid. Often times braid is so slick that your spool with give line under minimal pressure, regardless of your drag. A backing will easily eliminate this problem and save you money in the long run!

Ok thanks! And is there a preference between fluoro or mono? Does the test on the backing has to be the same as the braid or doesn’t matter?

Any size test of either line type works just fine.

Mono is preferable ... it's cheaper. I know some guys who use electrical tape as well.
