Forward-facing sonar (aka Live Sonar) was popularized by Garmin in 2018 with their Panoptix LiveScope product, which won the 2018 ICAST Best of Show. Humminbird & Lowrance have since introduced MEGA Live & ActiveTarget forward-facing sonar products. Forward-facing sonar has received a lot of attention, particularly for it's ability to locate and observe the behavior of offshore fish. Tournament broadcasting quality and entertainment value also has many bass anglers and tournament fans divided about the impact of the technology and how it fits into the future of the sport.
